Cat 6
Cat 6 is an improvement from the original standard, Cat 5e. Cat6 can support speeds of up to 10Gbps with a maximum run distance of 165 feet supported. The transmission frequency of standard Cat6 is 250MHz. Cat6 is the the most commonly used cable in installations with short runs because it is both affordable and commonly available in big-box retail stores.
Cat 6A
Cat6a is an improvement from the original standard, Cat 5e. Cat6a supports speeds of up to 10Gbps with a maximum run distance of 328 feet supported. This cable is commonly used in Data Centers and Large Office build-outs. With its long distance application, Cat6A provides better speeds for a more reliable connection.
Cat 5E
Cat5e used to be the standard for any Structured Cabling job, but has been since retired. Being such a versatile cable, this was used for both voice and data installations. You may find offices with this cabling still in use, but it is not widely sold or installed any longer. With a maximum of 1gig speeds, this staple deserves its spot in retirement.
Cat 7
Introducing Cat7. Businesses are quickly adopting the Cat7 standard because the 10gig transmission speeds over 328ft. With being both, shielded and insulated, the low level of interference sells itself. By eliminating noise and crosstalk, you can transfer large files 2.4 times faster than Cat6 cabling. If you need a high-speed, low latency connection, Cat7 is the way to go.
Fiber Optic
Quickly becoming the new standard for high demand internet usage, Fiber Optics can run uninturrupted for up to 62 miles without the need of boosters or repeaters. When you need fast speeds, your go-to should be Fiber Optic Cabling. Providing up 100gigs of speed, Fiber is the new Internet Provider standard to deliver fast, reliable internet to your home or business.
Coaxial
Coaxial still has its' place within the Internet space. Still used for Digitial Television and CCTV, Coaxial is a reliable alternative to Fiber Optics. By being both reliable and affordable, choosing Coaxial Internet is never a bad decision. This is typically terminated to a closet and requires equipment at both ends to convert to Cat6 cabling.
